I’ve been working hard in the last two months polishing prose, salting soups, and examining artifacts–a first draft of the cookbook is near!

Roasted Tomato Soup with Anchovies and Garnished with Goat Cheddar Crisps
A recent photo-shoot with talented Morgan Bellinger yielded exquisite documentation of the effort to preserve Tre-manner cuisine. (Yes, they taste as good as they look!)

Duck and Oyster Mushroom Tart with Roasted Apricots
Some of you have asked about the timeline, i.e. “When do I get my book?”
Publishing a book takes considerable patience. After the first draft is completed I’ll revise, edit, and revise again before handing it over to professional editors and designers. From there the design and actual manufacture of the book can take an additional (insert agonizingly large volume here) of time. So let me thank you again for your patience.
May the summer bring light and happiness to you and yours.

Work on the manuscript is proceeding at a frenzied pace and has uncovered new holidays like Tuttilang, the Tre-manner puppet festival, and new recipes like Perferlum Jad-zum, duck-mushroom tarts.
In the meantime please enjoy an interview of yours truly by the Kickstarter team:

The raw materials of a Tre-manner cookbook.
The kickstarter campaign was a roaring success! This means that the work on the cookbook starts in earnest now. Because of the generous support of my backers I’ll be working through the summer in a frenzied cloud of ground pepper and chopped garlic. I hope to have The Feasts of Tre-mang finished in the Fall of 2011. I’ll post updates as I progress. In the meantime, try one of the recipes and tell me what you think!

Julie’s Tea-Garden in Alameda California hosted the first Tre-mang-themed event. We read about the bizarre customs of the world’s first foodies and sampled rare delicacies from the imaginary island. There were even those who wore the traditional Tre-manner fashions.
These photos were taken by the talented Morgan Bellinger.

Well, here it is:
Everything you always wanted to know about the island you’ve never heard of.
The Feasts of Tre-mang is an ambitious work of fiction and culinary experimentation. It is a compendium of gastronomical secrets, marvelous customs, and miscellaneous marginalia from an extraordinary lost culture. Please help me finish it.
